From Struggles to Growth: My Cannabis Journey from 2010 to Now

The cannabis industry has been my life for over a decade, but the path hasn’t been easy. Starting in 2010 with Park N Sparkz in Huntington Beach, California, we fought for this plant, for the right to grow and share it with the world. When California’s laws changed in 2012, forcing us to shut down our dispensary, I knew this battle would be long.

In 2021, after years of lobbying in Virginia from 2011 onward, we finally achieved recreational cannabis legalization. But instead of the progress we hoped for, we were met with restrictive laws—only 4 plants and 1 ounce allowed. It wasn’t nearly enough, especially after years of pushing for a 100-plant minimum for home growers. This left Virginia’s market oversaturated with illegal activity, and law enforcement stepped back into the spotlight.

Hoping to escape these limitations, I ventured into Michigan with a promising project scheduled for July 2021. Everything seemed in place—a partner with land, money, and permits. Yet, the reality of racism in cannabis reared its head once again. The locals who were supposed to help sabotaged the project, red-lining my partner and stalling our operations. I found myself in Toledo, Ohio, waiting, working a friend's grow while keeping the Michigan dream alive. But after over a year of delays and setbacks, I had to make the tough call to move on.

Returning to Virginia, I set up my own grow with the help of an investor in Northern VA. We worked out of a small room for just $900 a month, and despite the humble setup, we produced some incredible quality cannabis. But another setback hit—product theft. A former employee stole our entire crop while I was out of town, and what should’ve been the first Real Royal drop never saw the light of day. By August 2023, that project had collapsed.

Now, I’m in Las Vegas. The city’s cannabis culture has changed drastically from when I first came here in 2016, bringing California merch to the local scene. The corporate industry dominates, and although there’s a small grow culture, it’s nothing like what it used to be. Despite this, I’ve managed to grow massive plants using minimal investment, equipment, and nutrients. But now it’s time to go bigger.

This isn’t just a hustle anymore—it’s time to scale. My process, my formulas, my plants—all need the right space to thrive. I’ve been grinding for years, and now is the time to transition from the struggles of small grows to the wealth of large-scale cannabis production. I’m ready to take my 15-foot plants to a proper space where I can get the yields I know are possible.

From Park N Sparkz to now, this journey has been about resilience and passion. The setbacks may have slowed me down, but they’ve never stopped me. Now, I’m ready to turn this passion into something monumental.

Stay tuned—there’s so much more to come.
